Michael Penney, P.E. Director of Engineering
Mike has been with GeoInsight since its start-up in 1993 and has a broad range of experience in geotechnical, civil, and environmental projects. His responsibilities include senior management of numerous large projects, high level interaction with clients and regulatory personnel, and senior peer review of complex deliverables. He manages a group of staff and is our geotechnical group practice leader and corporate Director of Engineering. Mike’s other responsibilities include business development, loss prevention, engineering design and design review, and serving on a strategic corporate steering committee. Mike also served on GeoInsight’s Board of Directors.
Mike is very familiar with the unique nature of the New England landscape and its subsurface geologic characteristics through direct involvement in many thousands of projects involving characterization and/or intrusive site investigation of undisturbed and disturbed (or man-made) land. His technical document preparation experience and council is often sought out to support developing proposals and comprehensive work scopes, review and preparation of contracts, and litigation strategies. His practice areas cover an extensive variety of civil, geotechnical and geoenvironmental evaluations, reports, design applications, feasibility analyses, and litigation support relative to foundations, soil conditions, groundwater and surface water, and contaminated soil remediation. He has significant expertise in geotechnical applications, slope stability, dams, landfills, groundwater intrusion management, pavement assessment and construction, infrastructure management, and site design. Through the performance of a wide range of investigation and compliance services for his clients, Mike has become very knowledgeable in building codes, as well as groundwater, stormwater, hazardous waste, solid waste, and other environmental regulations pertinent to the New England states.
