GeoInsight to Evaluate NED Impact on Turners Falls Water Supply

February 11, 2016

The Turners Falls Massachusetts Water Department recently retained GeoInsight Hydrogeologist David G. Harwood, P.G. to evaluate the potential impact from the planned Northeast Energy Direct (NED) gas pipeline may have on their aquifer and the municipal wellhead protection area.

Mr. Harwood will review impact studies and information provided by Tennessee Gas Pipeline, Co. (TGPC), who plans to build a pipeline through Montague and seven other Massachusetts towns. Mr. Harwood  was retained  to map the proposed project’s relation to the town’s municipal wellhead protection area, and assess potential impact on the water supply. One potential concern of the Turners Falls Water Department is with TGP plans for “horizontal drilling” and, in particular, the lubricants used in the process of drilling and pipe pulling.

The NED project extends through seven northeast states including Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, and Pennsylvania.
