At this year's New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) Spring Conference and Expo, GeoInsight's Director of Water Supply, Dave Maclean and Senior Hydrogeologist, Dave Harwood presented on Complications and Solutions Associated with Replacement Well Installation from the project recently completed for the North Conway Water Precinct (NCWP) to a large audience during the groundwater education section.

The presentation covered a range of technical, financial, and environmental challenges associated with a replacement project recently completed for the NCWP. Issues covered included:

  • Tropical Storm Irene and the hazards associated with siting water supplies in the Saco River Valley with an actively meandering river system

  • Well reconnaissance in the Saco River Valley using sonic drilling techniques

  • Use of glass beads in filter pack design to improve well efficiency

  • Complications with Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement and opportunities using the Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (MTBE) Settlement Funds

  • Withdrawal testing during the historic drought of 2016
