Environmental Air Permitting Specialist 

We are looking for a candidate with a strong work ethic, excellent client service skills, and can work independently as well as part of a team.

A strong academic record, knowledge of air pollution control regulations, and experience with preparation of air emissions permit applications for various types of emissions sources, and related air compliance documents is essential for this position. The ideal candidate will also have experience with air quality modeling for criteria pollutant and air toxic emissions, as well as intermediate to advanced skills with spreadsheet programs for air permit-related data management, recordkeeping, and reporting.   Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping other environmental compliance programs including hazardous waste, wastewater, stormwater, underground and aboveground storage tank (UST/AST) management, and EPCRA (Tier II, TRI) reporting is also a plus, but not required.


Key Duties:  

  • Develop emissions inventories and prepare air emissions calculations for all types of emissions sources
  • Prepare applications for air permits to construct and operate emission sources, including general, minor, synthetic minor, and Title V permits
  • Conduct air quality modeling (e.g., AERMOD) for criteria and toxic/hazardous air pollutants in support of air permit applications and compliance demonstrations
  • Perform air compliance audits for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities and prepare audit reports
  • Perform annual air compliance reporting tasks, including annual emission statements, and prepare related documents or electronic submissions
  • Provide technical support on various projects under the supervision of project managers to develop strategies to address air compliance issues (emission limit modifications, emission control equipment, stack modifications)
  • Evaluate impacts of new air regulations on GeoInsight’s clients
  • Review emission test reports and protocols

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a relevant applied science (Master’s Degree a plus)
  • 2+ years of air quality and air permitting-related experience, a plus
  • Good working knowledge of federal, state, and local air regulations, and ability to research air regulations to acquire knowledge when needed
  • Ability to perform air emissions calculations using emission factors or mass balance procedures, and experience with air quality modeling including standard USEPA-approved models and protocols
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Perform technical execution of projects under the supervision of project managers
  • Ability to follow direction, and work independently or in a team setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent skills in the development and use of Excel spreadsheets to perform calculations and organize data
  • Air dispersion modeling knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Willingness to learn and acquire skills as needed

The ideal candidate will also have experience with air quality modeling for criteria pollutant and air toxic emissions, as well as advanced skills with spreadsheet programs for air permit-related data management, recordkeeping, and reporting.   Experience with other environmental compliance programs including hazardous waste, wastewater, stormwater, underground and aboveground storage tank (UST/AST) management, and EPCRA (Tier II, TRI) reporting is also a plus.

Key Duties:  

  • Develop emissions inventories and prepare air emissions calculations for all types of emissions sources
  • Prepare applications for air permits to construct and operate emission sources, including general, minor, synthetic minor, and Title V permits
  • Conduct air quality modeling (e.g., AERMOD) for criteria and toxic/hazardous air pollutants in support of air permit applications and compliance demonstrations
  • Perform air compliance audits for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities and prepare audit reports
  • Perform annual air compliance reporting tasks, including annual emission statements, and prepare related documents or electronic submissions
  • Provide technical support on various projects under the supervision of project managers to develop strategies to address air compliance issues (emission limit modifications, control equipment, stack modifications)
  • Evaluate impacts of new air regulations on GeoInsight’s clients
  • Review emission test reports and protocols  

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant applied science (Master’s Degree a plus)
  • 3+ years of air quality and air permitting-related experience with willingness to expand experience to include other environmental compliance and permitting activities
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local air regulations
  • Ability to perform air emissions calculations using emission factors or mass balance procedures, and experience with air quality modeling including standard USEPA-approved models and protocols
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Perform technical execution of projects under the supervision of project managers
  • Ability to follow direction, and work independently or in a team setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent skills in the development and use of Excel spreadsheets to perform calculations and organize data
  • Air dispersion modeling knowledge and experience is a plus

 

Educational and Position requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science,  or a related field;
  • Knowledge of federal and state (New England Region) environmental permit regulations;
  • Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills;
  • Business development experience; and
  • Health & Safety experience a plus.
