Meat Processing and Food Manufacturing Facility: Permitting and General Compliance Assistance

Meat_Processing_1.jpgGeoInsight provided environmental, health, and safety compliance and engineering support to a large food manufacturing facility to maintain consistent compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. The facility generates more than 80,000 gallons per day of industrial wastewater, is subject to the process safety management program for the storage of ammonia for refrigeration, and must file annual reports to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MADEP) for air emissions, hazardous waste management, storm water discharges, ammonia storage, and chemical use for both sanitation and wastewater treatment.  GeoInsight provided environmental compliance reporting, permitting, assessment, and engineering design assistance.

Key Projects Included:

  • Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting, including Tier II, TRI, and Toxic Use Reduction (TUR) planning
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) support as well as Refrigerant Management Planning
  • Voluntary greenhouse gas reporting through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which included preparation of calculations for facility emissions and reduction targets
  • Storm Water permitting, planning, and reporting to the USEPA
  • Industrial Wastewater Permitting through Massachusetts Regional Water Authority (MWRA) as well as wastewater treatment system evaluations and concept design
  • Hazardous waste and Department of Transportation (DOT) awareness training
  • Fire safety inspections
  • Air emissions Source Registration (SR) permitting support
  • Facility Emergency Response Planning (ERP) as well as spill response, planning, and reporting
