Identifying Contingencies

No matter how well-planned a project is, shifting circumstances can bring unanticipated changes. GeoInsight deals with changing environments every day and are therefore well-adapted to see solutions where others see problems. During planning and design, we listen to your needs, ask more detailed questions based upon data collected, and take pride in demonstrating a clear understanding of your objectives. We'll see to it that your goals are planned properly and your interests are protected.

The ability to discover, evaluate, and communicate environmental issues associated with proposed development is one of the most important factors in a project’s success. GeoInsight uses comprehensive assessment methods to characterize the proposed use's impact on surrounding population, traffic patterns, storm water and ground water quality, air quality, historic resources, sensitive environmental receptors, and sustainability objectives. Using searchable databases, Sanborn maps, and state and town file archives, GeoInsight develops a clear understanding of the potential risks that may be lurking beneath existing structures and/or in ground surface that may affect the new use. These factors are then compared to establish expected conformance with applicable codes and regulations.

The culmination of our data gathering and evaluation is the actual design of the new facility, structure, system, etc. The design forms the instructions for the delivery of the project and will be used by the owner, contractors, regulators, and other interested parties, incorporating:

  • background information
  • client objectives
  • applicable regulations and codes
  • technical requirements and standards of practice, and
  • other criteria, such as sustainability goals.

GeoInsight follows carefully considered design procedures to present defensible calculations, and support the selection of practical materials and efficient methods. We use design notebooks on more complex projects, keep an updated library of design software and technical software, and use previously-created calculation tables and drawing detail templates whenever possible to minimize design costs.

"If your contribution has been vital there will always be somebody to pick up where you left off, and that will be your claim to immortality." -Walter Gropius

Most of our designs require us to illustrate the proposed construction in a comprehensible manner and to a wide audience (i.e., planning boards, municipal engineers, regulators, contractors, and the public). GeoInsight takes pride in the quality and clarity of our drawings, illustrations, and photographic records. We also provide drawing notes that promote additional clarity of the design intent.

Because we know which aspects of the conveyed information deserve the most attention in the design, our documentation clearly distinguishes between existing and proposed conditions, and emphasizes key features through “call-outs,” use of coloring schemes, variable line weights, and other drafting techniques. We have a keen sense of which site conditions will require multiple drawings/details to properly depict, enabling a comprehensive understanding of proposed project phasing. Our depictions are clear and accurate, providing a solid foundation for planning and design. Our illustrations typically define:

  • Features to be removed versus those to be constructed
  • Specific features to preserve
  • Surface and subsurface structures
  • Setbacks and easements
  • Special conditions
  • Surface treatments
  • Drainage structures
  • Topographic relief, and
  • Surroundings.

We provide plans and figures in a variety of software formats including AutoCAD, GIS ArcView, CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Understanding all of the permits required to get your new development or facility up and running can be daunting. GeoInsight’s staff includes compliance specialists with industry experience to successfully navigate you through the permitting process. Our familiarity with a wide range of regulations allows us to efficiently prepare successful permit packages on your behalf that do not get stalled in red tape due to lack of required information.
